-Don't like to be nice? Become a pirate and pillage and plunder ships to sell you're haul on planets black markets! But be careful of bounty hunters hired by factions to track you down and bring you to justice!

As mentioned by other people, the game really is player orientated and making friends/alliances is a key feature of the game. Do not worry though, i wasn't in the game 10 minutes before I was getting messages from players offering me help or inviting me to their factions. Join up and ask players for help to learn you're way around!
