Aegis is set upon the typical browser based MMORPG game design: You build a kingdom, raise an army, and by the means of your choosing... set a course for the number one spot.
However, what sets Aegis apart from the rest of the pack is the fact that the game does not reset.
You are free to start a kingdom, and build to your hearts content indefinitely.
All of the choice is left to the individual players, as only you can choose to 'reset' yourself, or... through combat, 'reset' other players.
Along with the typical resource production and management many click games offer, Aegis features numerous long term research projects that your province can construct, which add bonuses to nearly every aspect of the game, from resource production to special attacks.
Be warned, Aegis is not for the impatient, or the foolish. Making an account in Aegis and being a successful player requires much more time and dedication to the game than most of it's competitors.
For those who like to rule through brute force, Aegis features about 50 troop types, and the opportunity to choose one of three special "paths" later in the game. You can become a Science, Magic, or Religion based society, with troops, attacks, and special abilities to match.
For those who prefer the pen to the sword, Aegis offers THE BEST GAMING DIPLOMACY... hands down. Featuring an incredibly active community, coupled with a game that never resets, Aegis forces players to operate intelligently through cunning or honor, and sometimes both!
The game mechanics are diverse enough for a player to opt to either grow his/her province through warfare, or through peaceful exploration of land.
Widespread use of variables in the game code and special events that can happen to your province keep the building and growing of your province interesting and challenging.
While growing your province you can earn your keep playing the Auction and trading at the Bazarr.
Or you can operate independently from the community, and elect to produce all you need in your province.
The design team for Aegis is active in the forums, and is very quick to repair bugs or other problems with the game. They are also open to player suggestions, and routinely modify the game mechanics and/or rules based on player comments.
The game designers, for the most part, stay out of the players way, even so far as allowing the players to police the game. Most bug abusers and malicious users of multiple accounts are run out of the game by the players themselves, not the game staff.
Out of the many turn based games I have played, Aegis is THE BEST in diplomacy, province building, strategy, allowing the individual player to choose his/her own destiny, and most of all ... community.
Try this game, you will not be disappointed.
