Aegis: Online strategy game about economy and military
Aegis is an online strategy game.
It is browser based, so you don't need to download a special client.
For the beginner it is quite easy and simple. But you should have a strategic talent. If not, you should ask a lot of questions, which is possible in the Aegis forum.
You play the ruler of a province. When Your province grows, the simulation becomes slowly more complex. I my opinion then Aegis is still a simple game, but other people may disagree.
First You start to setup farms to feed your people. Next you explore new land to grow. New unbuilded land gives immigrants the oppurtunity to come into your land and build homes. More people (peasants) means more tax income. So this is the basic economical circle: land -> peasants -> gold -> land (the circle starts gain).
Besides this different buildings come into account, step by step: tax offices, manufactures for goods (stone, textiles, wood).
When you keep a balance (no shortages) and keep growing, you will go pretty well in Aegis.
As a beginner, you are protected against miltary attacks, so you can relax and learn the game.
Now let's talk about another element of Aegis: the kingdoms.
You can (and should) join a kingdom. Which one, is your free decision. The kingdom can give you (if it is a good kingdom) military protection, social interaction in the kingdom-internal forum (which is fun!) and strategy advices from experienced players.
If you don't like your kingdom, you can always leave.
When You have reached a high "level" (measured by a value called "networth"), war and diplomacy becomes an important element.
You can choose to be a "merchant province", which means: growing economically, having a miltary defense but making no attacks.
Or you can chooce to be a "fighter province": You build a strong offensive army and envolve in wars.
In both cases there's an important element in Aegis military: The city walls. You must have at least 5% of your land covered with walls to have a "closed", secure fortress. An attacker can do you no harm until he has beat en your walls down, which is normally a tough job..
Diplomacy is a little bit tough, but it depends on you. You decide what Aegis diplomacy will be. If you're smart, intelligent and peaceful and if you can keep your head "cool", you have the chance to develop good, successful diplomacy.
But in Aegis diplomacy can only be succesful, if it is backed up by a strong military power (both deffensive and offensive) to make your voice heard.
Two more element in Aegis gameplay:
First, spies: You can send spies for covert operations, like information gathering or sabotage.
Second, the path: At a rather high level you can decide to take a path, if you want. You can choose only one, and you can't take this decision back. The choice can be made from these three optins: Magic, Science, Religion.
Each has its own advantages.
