Alright for those of you that aren't able to comprehend modern gaming. In order to make a living these companies that put out free games need a little income in order to constantly keep up with flow of players that come into the game worlds they setup.
Now with that said Tibia is a free game. The only problem with it is that there are only so many free spots open during a period time of the day... which ever they may be and create the cutoff limit for players who either are unable to find funds to pay for the premium benefits, or just dont think its worth it. I myself have been on both ends and I am telling you from my own experience that whatever concern you have about getting into a game world on tibia, all you have to do is join newer servers.

Now as far as the game play goes, yes its a little under the graphical margin that most players enjoy today, but the system is quite unique. There is a group of quests that players can enjoy, along with many spawns for mobs for people to level up off of. The game also offers a wide range of economics to take place. In the main world you will find people buying and selling spells which will make killing monsters and other players much easier and to help you level up.
As far as PKing is concerned, stay out of the hot spots and go off and hunt monsters. A pk isnt gonna follow you everywhere, they just enjoy killing low levels in the immediate towns from time to time, or taking advantage of them. You will find these player types in most games.
umm what else... Oh yes!
The reason that the game promotes the lowering of a persons level is to teach players that the game takes on an earthly lesson. To treat your characters life as it was your own, and to help you learn that you should probably stop making the mistake that you are making. People who have a problem with this probably arent able to handle decent games like this.
