Furcadia has a lot of promise to it, and could be quite enjoyable under the right circumstances; however these circumstances are often difficult to create (at least in my experience). I played this game for a couple of months before finally leaving, so I belive myself to be a little more eligible to comment than those who deleted it straight away.

Firstly, I'll clarify -- Furcadia is NOT an action game. The only real action here is walking around and sitting. It is a chat-based MMORPG. This is fine in itself, but makes for a bit of a boring time while waiting for someone to post.

Yes, the music was terrible; yes, controls were limited; yes, the graphics weren't top of the line. While this may be a drawback for those who are used to high-definition graphics etc. , it makes the game more accessible to people whose computers may not have the necessary firepower to generate higher-resolution games. There was still enough to create your own unique character - customisation was surprisingly diverse. This low res. also makes it easier for people creating 'dreams': unique, entirely user-created worlds. While again one is graphically limited, it's quite amazing to see what people are capable of. You can make some pretty cool shit if you know how, though I wasn't able to get the hang of it myself.

The core of this game is community based, however, and this seems to me to be it's downfall. Most 'child-safe' areas are either deserted, full of 133T speakers ,or full of people who ignore your existance entirely. The majority of the furcadian population are in the 'Adult' area, where the dark underbelly of Furcadia arises - furries, surprisingly enough. And I mean REAL furries, not just those who think animal-people are cute.
There were a few good aspects to this area; lots of people, WAY less 'childish' atmosphere for sure, and frankly no-holds-barred when it comes to anything, which is a curse unto itself. While this opens up your options for role-play, it also leaves you open to torrents of abuse or spam. Thank the lord for the 'ignore' command. If you have a female character, beware; even if you make her butt-fugly with the emotional range of a brick wall, prepare to be e-raped. Constantly. If you have a male character; prepare to be ignored by the rest of the population. This is probably why people with male alts resort to erape - sheer boredom.
And don't think it stops there! The place is crawling with fetishists of every kind. If you have the guts, look up "The Rabbit Hole" (bad pun, I know). You would simply be AMAZED, is all I can say. Now, it's alright for people to have fetishes, but please - keep it in the bedroom.
Not to say that everyone there is bad, though. I believe I've met...about 5 people who I would consider friendly (although, 3 of them did try to rape me beforehand). It's possible to make good friends and have a rich and rewarding role-play in this game, you just have to be persistant and meet people who share your interests.

Soooo...yes. This MMORPG has a lot of potential under the right conditions. Just...damn, it's scary. I'm surprised is hasn't been sued by angry mothers for taking their kids' e-virginity or something. *shudder*

It is an average game

(3/5) Reviewed by User: sarahead49 on Fri Aug 17 2007
Ok, I have played Furcadia on and off several times and I will list the good parts of it and the bad parts.

Good: You can walk around and fully design your character. The graphics are very colorful, and the sound is pleasant. You can chat and explore, and turn into dragons, wolves, fairies, and other creatures. You can swim and you can sit on huge twirling flowers. You can create scripts, dreams (fully customizable dreams) and patches. You can also write your own character description. You can roleplay and there are lots of places to go. You can sit and lie down.

Bad: The graphics aren't very good and the sound gets repetitive. The mini-games are boring. It costs money to turn into wolves, dragons, fairies and other creatures. It is confusing to do the script, create dreams and create patches, and the game is barely organized, so it is hard to figure out where you are going. It is easy to get lost. You also can't fight or do many character actions. The game gets repetitive and the gameplay is not exciting.

So that is my review of Furcadia. It is average.

Furcadia is not just a chat room. It is a chance to express your imagination with things such as making your own dreams, hmes, talking to people, join in one of the many events, hang out, or even become a Beekin. As a Welcomer Beekin I can see many new furres don't like the look of Furcadia when they first enter... But when you make frinds and are on Furcadia as long as me you will be addicted. I can't believe you people would give Furcadia a bad review. You people have completely no imagination! Try and make friends and maybe you'll have fun, don't just stay there for a few seconds and walk around and then judge it! Play it for a little bit, then you will enjoy it.

You didn't even bother to bo to the AI. In some you can become a wolf, lion, or horse ect. And you can have puppies and such. This game is for people with imagination who can create a story with a simple picture. It was ment to develop the mind with creativity. Scince I see all these bad reports, I get the picture you don't have any imagination. 5 min of playing? I was bored TO DEATH until I figured out how to get to AI and the Vincia. You have to play for a hour to really like it. Also, that stupid little area you appear in at first? It the welcome center. Its supposed to help you get used to it. Play again and hit the B tab, press AI, and explore before you tell me about Beekin s**t. After the welcome area, he dosn't come back unless you
A. type help
or
B. Return to the welcome dream.
People who rate poorly have no imagination and low attetion spands.

This some real person said "I am your helper, let me show you how to have a FURtastic time!" I was, like, "EEP!" Then some people go on there and say, "Can we kill other players on here or get married?" Well, NO! This game COULD be great, but it failed. First, get good graphics, then some better things to talk, get rid of Beekin, and then add some better way to get around and do stuff!

It's not really that bad

(4/5) Reviewed by User: remile on Tue Apr 18 2006
Seriously, its not as bad as some of you are putting it. The people are really nice, well some of them. I met only one dude that wasn't nice. As far a "furries" being on the game, well, what the hell did you expect? Besides, that doesn't mean all they think about is sex. There's no actual violence (I want my violence) but you can role-play it, some even give you a character sheet. Never figured out how to do it, but its there. Plus, the ability to make and even script your own places is neat. And people actually help you. You just say help and then a question and its gonna get answered. Graphics aren't exactly high-resolution 3-D, but its better than some. Besides, its not like EVERY computer can handle 3-D graphics, some are really old and they can play Furcadia. I had really old computer. It lagged on Furcadia, but at least I was able to play it, it just needed a new graphic card to stop the lag anyway. By the way, I just thought of something. What's gonna happen if there was a legit battle system? I'll tell, you gonna get scammed for weapons and stuff, people aren't gonna be as nice, and you might not get help as often. If the graphics were any better, poor folk with old computers wouldn't be able to play it. It isn't for hardcore gamers. (If I said anymore on that subject, it'd probably be flaming, so I'm leaving at that.) But if you like to role-play, and have conversation on something other than how much experience you have, this is the game for you, furry or not. But if you absolutely need actual experience points to have fun (at least you think you do) this probably ain't for you, though it wouldn't hurt anything to try. (If you do try, try for more than 5 minutes. That way ya meet people.)

P.S. So you play as an animal, big deal.

So Much Potential...

(1/5) Reviewed by User: RealxEmotion on Thu Mar 02 2006
This game has the potential to be great, but it fails at this terribly. For a game with so much "imagination" it sure lacks a good way to use it. The graphics are dismal, and the avatars and portraits are worse. To get a better-looking avatar or portrait you have to pay real money! You'd think with all the people doing this, the people in charge of this game would MAKE IT BETTER! Sure you think the idea of your own customizable dream would be cool, but don't be fooled - it is hard to understand and accomplish building a truly awesome dream. It takes a long time and a lot of brain power. When building a unique dream you need to download patches, things that go into your dream. Every patch site I've been to is NOT ORGANIZED. You go there and you can't find looking for because everything is just thrown in there randomly! Sort of like the game itself. It has no organization whatsoever (except for the fact that the x-rated part of the game is apart from the rest of everything) Ontop of not living up to its potential in graphics, imagination, and innovation, the Furcadia community itself is terrible. Every single person I encountered there was arrogant and rude. (and I was on there for awhile - more than a month, at least) I don't know WHY the community was so arrogant! Every other online game I've played the community was decent and somewhat helpful, but here the people are just downright rapped up in themselves. Don't be surprised if you go on there and get ignored or taunted! I don't know how the cliques on there were formed, but they certainly don't let new members in - not willingly! It is a very addicting game, two of my friends (in real life) are absolutley addicted to this game, and I have no idea why! One of my friends especially spends almost every waking moment on there talking to his friends and doing all the little games (which by the way, all become the same after awhile - like the sound effects and music) which surprised me because his *so-called* best friends on there were some of the most arrogant I came across! And since he's such an "expert" on this game (an elite all-hailed master of the game, or whatever) he's always going on about how they're never going to change the graphics and how SO many people like it that way and how it's been proven and blah blah blah... I've read reviews of Furcadia on every game site I've been too, and usually more than half are negative. I'm sorry, but this game just has so much potential that's wasted. It can be dangerously addicting, especially if you're into cyber-sex (the x-rated portion of Furcadia, where most of the players seem to gather). So my advice is don't waste your time - you'll most likely be let down.

Furcadia - Can you learn things from it?

(5/5) Reviewed by User: Tier on Mon Jan 30 2006
Well. This is just my view of furcadia. I've been playing it for over a year now, I am one of those helpers (a beekin) and I have gained many friends and met many new people. But the real question is, did I learn anything? I sure did! Get this, I was doing pretty bad in english, getting grade E's and such. Now, because of roleplaying and talking and just playing about on furcadia, I've managed to get B's and A's. Also, people will be racist about other countries and people, but will not know anything about them. I've gone on furcadia and learnt all about muslims and such, now I absolutely reject racism at all costs. See, furcadia somehow made me a better person.. Sure, the graphics aren't great, and there's no combat. But it's a great game for learning to grow up. So, in my opinion furcadia is an excellent game, and deserves a look at least. Try it out! http://www.furcadia.com

Before you discourage others from trying Furcadia, find out what it is all about and you cannot do that in 2 minutes. Yes Furcadia is mainly a world wide chat room, but it has other features also. You can create your own little world, called dreams, expressive your creativity. You get to learn how to animate things and move people around in your worlds with script coding, called Dragonspeak. You can explore other furre's, yes furres because your character is an animal, worlds and see wonderful artistic work, normaly done pixel by pixel. Furcadia has many very talented artist. Alot of RP in Furcadia, and I mean some of the best RPers here. I really enjoy the creativity side of Furcadia. So I guess I am trying to say, just try Furcadia for longer than 2 minutes. Most of these past reviews are lies...

(5/5) Reviewed by User: Benjie1988 on Tue Nov 29 2005
I've played this... chatroom for nearly three years; it's not a game about killing the other players, leveling up, or about graphics; it's simply a chatroom/role playing game/chill out zone, what have you. 9/10th of the people who reviewed that they didn't like it had God-aweful grammer, one thing you NEED in Furcadia, because thats the only real thing there is to do in it!

And, the kid who posted just before me, about not playing this if your over 11 years old: I'm 18 and I still love this game. I have had several intelligent conversations on Furcadia, also, thanks.

And another thing: Those players who stay on 24/7 and act like 'NPCs' DON'T act like NPC's! Heaven forbid there is a group out there who tries to help others who need it! Also, they're not on 24/7, they have lives as well. I should know, I'm one of them! I help out the new players to find the best place for them in Furcadia.

No, you little kids who love 3D games, blood, gore, slash and hack, RuneScape crap won't enjoy this game.

Now, I'll admit, the music is God-aweful, the graphics aren't that great, and some of the people are really strange, but that shouldn't make you stop playing the game five minutes in and assume you don't like it.

Finally, everyone who gave these stupid remarks saying that the graphics were bad, and that was that: Grow up. You should enjoy a game for the quality of the gameplay in itself, not by the beauty of it.

P.S. - It's not 'Beenie,' it's 'Beekin.'

so i thought i would register to have a go. so i create my character, (and the choices were a bit limited for that). then you have to write a description of what they look like, which seemed a bit pointless at the time, but when i was in the game itself, i could see why. the graphics are extremely poor. i understand that it is a free game, but so is runescape, and runescapes graphics are 3d, and look like what they are meant to, instead of a 2d blob.
i get into the game, and there is no clue of what you are meant to be doing. i think that the game really should have a tutorial level, like most games either on a console, or online.
extremely dissapointed with what i saw once i figured out what i was doing. there is just no action. no combat, no skill levels, furcadia just seemed a bit pointless to me.
the last thing that really got me, was when you sign up to the game, you have to download the game, and other bits and pieces, and so i was expecting something amazing, but not so.

I played the game for a week and this is what I found. It does lack violence, something that I like in a game, but you can find dreams where there is actual fighting. One dream is kinda like the Legend of Zelda. There are many places to explore but you might get bored of walking around aimlessly for a long time. One thing that really sucks is that you can't actually use items. Some dreams might make use of them, but otherwise they appear to be just for looking at. Also, if you have an old computer, chances are your going to lag worse than other players. You might even have to press CTRL+ALT+DEL to get out. Otherwise, some dreams are fun and I've found dreams of diffrent categories (mystery, adventure, etc.) and it's a pretty good way of meeting people. Oh and the roleplaying adds a nice touch. Overall, you should download and play this game only if you like chating and exploring all in the same package. (Just don't accidentally go into someones private dream.)

I think Furcadia's somewhere in the middle. It's just not for me. But just because you downloaded and spent less than 10 minutes in it doesn't mean you've seen and experienced everything, though it may be better if you didn't download it at all if you're more of a combat person. I think Furcadia is more like a chatroom/forum more than anything else, and if you don't like that, then just avoid it. You don't have to go through all the trouble of downloading it just to get a bad opinion. By the way, in case you didn't notice, on the front page it says, "Furcadia is a fully graphical, Massively Multi-player Online Social Game (MMOSG) with an isometric perspective, making it easy to interact with others." Furcadia is a decent game in terms of its dreams, maps created by real players that can be all sorts of types. There's something different in every dream. Also, very good for making friends.

There is also an adult section (18+), but don't worry parents, Furcadia includes a parental control feature that will require a password to enter the map. There is a live help service known as the Beekins, ready to answer any questions you have about Furcadia, and a Welcome Map that explains the basics to any newly arriving character. Furcadia is a game for all ages -- though the average age of the players, is around 15-25 years. Many will try to discredit a game that they don't like, but please, look at it and play it for a while before you listen to them.

Furcadia, is a place to meet people all around the world, that have the same interests as you. Some say that Furcadia is just a 'Chat room', in some sense, that is true. However, most of the players are found RolePlaying in others dreams. They come and play Furcadia, -to- Roleplay.

As there are those that come to RolePlay, there are also those that come to socialise. It is really up to you.

My personal opinion of the game is; Furcadia is a game for everyone, of all ages. I enjoy it, and spend most of my spare time on it. I have made many great friends, that I know will be there for me throughout the years.

Furcadia is the game for me, but is it the game for you?

Try it. Play it. Don't just dismiss it.

Whatever happens, enjoy the games that you play.

But don't discredit those that you don't.

-Hopes.

Furc is one of my fave games, and I play it more often than almost anything else. I know a lot of people think it's for babies, including many of my friends, but they just didn't play it long enough to get it. Otherwise I'm weird, but...

Game... or Chatroom?

This isn't meant as a criticism, since I liked playing on Furcadia. However, to call it a game is, IMHO, a bit misleading. I believe it is much closer to a chatroom.

Furcadia is a good game, especially for those who like games for the socail or custumization aspect. Your character can be a horse, dog, rabbit, or mouse. You may create "dreams" in this game, which is your own world. At first your worlds will probably really stink and noone will come. But after a few weeks, or months, you'll be great and youll love yourself for it. There are many holiday celebrations in this game, which I like. Also there are a few things which you can buy such as wings (look cool plus allow you to go to another world others cant acces unless they have them or a friend flys them there), and animal transformations. You may also become apart of the staff as certain things, which also gives you acces to another world others cant get to. But remember, unless you find a neat dream or create your own cool one, the main thing of the game will be socail.

Furcadia is a great game

First of all if you think the game is too "babyish" go to FurN and go yiff yourself, that is IF you know how to get to the other maps besides New Haven.

The really great thing about this game is the dream feature. If you get good enough at DS programming, patch bulding, and mapping dreams you can turn this game into whatever you want to turn it into.

RP(role playing) is also a fun activity to indulge in, unless you are a twink, then you will get flamed out of whatever dream or map you are on. You will like this part of the game if you can post in turns and can separate OOC and IC.

The bottom line is... Don't listen to people who post bad reviews with no capitalization and no punctuation because they either haven't played the game enough to see how good it is or are complete idiots trying to trash a great game.

right from the start i had a bad feeling about this game. the cute front dint appeal to me at all, but i peristed through the "create a character" which lets you have about 5 options. got into the actual game and it got worse. crap camera, stupid graphics, retard dragon called beenie, sh*t controls and unable to move more than one square in 3 seconds. i played this game for about 30 seconds then turned it off in disgust.

I like it, actually. People understand you, and sure, this game isn't for everyone. It's mainly for people who enjoy writing, and can at least keep up a good conversation. It just depends which area you go to. I've been playing Furcadia for aaaaages. But it's not for everyone.
