I have played many different MOPG's during my time. Some of them have been great, others not so great. Hyperiums is one of the great ones.

It has a large community of players, which is important for the long term viability of the game. Also, in addition to the normal text based features of similar games, it has Java based features that allow players to more fully immerse themself in the game. The game itself has been intelligently designed, and it has good rules that are strongly enforced. If you want a fun playing experience, good rules are of utmost importance.

During the time that I have been playing Hyperiums, I have not encountered errors with the game, nor times where the server was down. That is a major plus, especially if someone only accesses the game periodically and wants the game to always be accessible.

Overall, I strongly recommend Hyperiums for a great online gaming experience. Enjoy!

I have to disagree.
Credits, which can be obtained easily be buying them through the "Credit Sales" section of Maps and Markets make credits be able to be bought with 1-3 days income.

Also, new players could just stay in the Hyperiums Protecterate and build up their exploits and, with the ability to now build fleets in Protecterate, build up an army to withstand that of the veteran players.

I would also like to comment that if an alliance is dominating a super-cluster, thats why new form. In the last round, round 4, there was 12 of these super-clusters, or "universes" as previously called, each with their pwn dominating alliance, alliances, or none.

I would like to conclude by saying this:
I rate this a 4/5 because it is a game that can be accomplished from 10 minutes a day to 8 hours and has a very good type of gameplay.

An Average Game

I started playing hyps in the Fall of '05 and all in all honesty it isn't a bad game (compared with some of the other games out there), but it's far from a great game.

Playablility: 3/5
The game is dominated, mainly, by a few major alliances who have been around since, or very close to, the start of the game. As a result, their planets population scores are off the charts while the new players' planets are extremely poor. This causes the game to be fairly unpopular as no new members are joining. In reality the only people who stand a chance are the veterans, and even they have a tendency to leave occasionally. What would make the game better in this sense is to have several "universes" in the game at the same time. Ogame does it. Ferion does it. Hyperiums should do it?. Defending your "empire" is also an issue. DaGod (the owner of Hyps) DID integrate several extra parameters that give defenders a significant advatage, but in a sense they backfired as now the bigger alliances get an even bigger defense bonus.

Forums: 4/5
The forums are relatively friendly. N00bs are thrashed around, but it doesn't take too long before you gain some respect.

Fairness: 3/5
Hyperiums doesn't take too long to learn to play before you can compete just as well as the veterans. This is the problem. While there are many good players on Hyps, most of those good players aren't given enough credit. Rather, the ones who dominate the game are the ones who have been there for two or more years. The game itself radically becomes a game of "Who got to Hyperiums fastest?". It's just not fair in that sense.

Cost: 2/5
Hyps has too many problems to ask for money. Hyps has this credit system where one credit = 90 days of full-version play. If you buy the credits, your planet limit becomes 14 and you can access VERY necessary technologies. If you don't, your planet limit is 6 and your account is excessively limited. That means if you don't buy the credits (or hope someone is generous enough to give you one [for free]), you have no future at Hyps. There are far better games than Hyps who still want money, but are cheaper. Imperia, for example, costs $4 for four months. Hyperiums is $4 for three months. With Imperia you get a far better game at a cheaper price.

Uniqueness: 2/5
There's nothing special about Hyperiums. You build ships, manage streams of resources, bash alliances, get bashed yourself, the works. It's also very unrealistic. While reality isn't much of a factor with games, it doesn't make sense at all that you get to command 10+ Million ships. Now, 10,000 is more realistic and actually makes sense. At 10+ Million ships, the only people that will survive are the ones who have the most planet population.

Overall: 3/5
I'm not fully satisfied with Hyperiums. You pay a good amount of money for a game that isn't worth playing. The universe doesn't reset except for once every 3-4 years. That's enough time to go through high school, or college, or 4/5 of graduate school (places where you'll actually accomplish something and are worthwhile). I'm sorry, but some of us players actually have lives and don't want to have to wait every four years to play and have a chance.

Suggestions for Hyps:
1) Make several universes and reset them more often.
2) Make credits cheaper. $15-16 for a year isn't worth it for a game of this caliber.
3) Put a cap on planet population that operates as a function of the planet's size. Planets can't support 300 Billion citizens...
4) Add some mystery to the game! Make those suncruisers and mooncruisers available. That would add some awe to the game.

DIPLOMATS, BASHES, WARS, THE PIRCE FOR 1 year is cheap. YOU MUST PLAY THIS GAME. its left me speechless not a waste of money or time. If you are a fan of text based games

This game needs help... badly

This game is of substandard quality. Just to get into the free version to try you are put in a que of over 3000 people waiting to try the game before you have to pay for it.

If you choose to pay before trying the game out you will learn that unlike their claim of instant access you will have to wait awhile still for your account to be activated into the pay game.

At the point you enter the paying game you will find that it is nearly impossible to be able to build up your empire. the game is dominated by a few large alliances which dominate everyone else. If you choose not to join one of these alliances you will be crushed immediately. After loosing your first planet you will have to wait 4 days before you can play the game again. All you can do for those 4 days is post in the forums. If you loose your second planet the delay becomes even longer.

The game also has several limits introduced to not allow players to be able to expand in the game. In the pay game you are also limited to 12 planets of thousands. Hardly a game which allows you to make a empire as they claim. You are just allowed your small chunk of a small part of the world. After you have achieved this goal of 12 planets there is nothing to do for the rest of the game. Seeing as they make you buy time in chunks of 12 months at a time this is a extreme waste of your money.

This game also only has resource ticks every 8 hours. In the turn-based online games such slow activity is sub-par for any game especially a game which charges you to play.

In summary this game is extremely lacking in content. As a new player it is extremely hard to build up and if you succeed far enough into the game to start taking out other players you will find you have reached the end of the game in a week at the most. this game is filled with newb bashers and the only way to avoid these players is to excersice the planet protection that they offer you but to choose this option makes growing your empire extremely slow. The game is updated extremely slowly. In 8 months between times i played there was almost no change in the game except for a slightly different user interface which was no better then the one before.

I do NOT recommend this game, AT ALL!!! (PS: the pay version is not worth it)

the best of its kind

At least, the best I have tried.
It is hard to explain why it is so addictive only from its feature, as some other game have the same (Dark Galaxy, Planetarion have similar features, although I have not played both of them).
The difference in hyperiums is that it is easier to interact with the other players in the server, and the pacing is better.
Some conflicts involve hundreds of players over a long period.
The politics and strategic aspects of the game are the best I have found in any online game.
However it is one of the harshest game for the newbies, as they have little protection from wealthier players.
The game lacks interest if you don't find a good alliance to play with, but once you do, it makes for a very interesting experience.

Well what to say about this game. It is a game that works addicting. It has many possibilities and you can play it for years. You can cooperate with allot of people or if you are good and smart you can play solo. Good game which every1 should try.

I registered just to give this game the recognition it deserves. I have played this game constantly. My account has timed out due to inactivity enough times but that is due to my lack of dedication, not Hyperiums.
This is the best online MMORPG I know. If you've never tried it DO IT NOW. It may look confusing after the first glance but when you've looked at the quick-start guide and talked to other players about your problems then it becomes addictive and fun.
